IPL 2021: All-round CSK outclass SRH to become the 1st team to book spot in play-offs

They failed to reach the play-offs for the first time in Indian Premier League history but Chennai Super Kings have become the first team to confirm a spot in the knock-out stage of IPL 2021. CSK outlcased Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets in Match 44 of IPL 2021 to become the first team to get to 18 points and thereby seal a spot in the play-offs.

Chennai Super Kings have put behind the horrors of IPL 2020 to win 4 matches on the bounce in the UAE this season and 7 on the trot, overall away from India. They now have 18 points from 11 matches, 2 more than Delhi Capitals who are sitting at the 2nd spot on the IPL 2021 points table. This is the 11th time CSK have reached the play-offs of IPL in 14 seasons. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s outside chances of reaching the top 4 came to an end with the defeat.IPL 2021: SRH vs CSK in Sharjah HighlightsIt was an all-round performance from CSK who won the toss and opted to field on another sluggish pitch in Sharjah, which has changed as drastically as the Super Kings’ fortunes in IPL 2021.MS Dhoni hits winning six as CSK into play-offsAfter restricting Sunrisers to 134/7, Chennai Super Kings got another superb start from openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis but a middle-order wobble saw the match stretch to the final over. In the end, it was MS Dhoni winding back the clock as the CSK captain hit the winning runs with a six.Ruturaj and du Plessis added 75 runs for the opening stand to dominate SRH bowlers. However, SRH managed to pull things back after Ruturaj fell to Jason Holder in the 11th over.Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina fell in quick succession following which du Plessis fell 5 short of another IPL fifty. However, MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu held their nerves to put on a 31-run stand before Dhoni finished it off in style.Josh Hazlewood and Dwayne Bravo hurt SRHEarlier in the day, Chennai Super Kings came up with another clinical bowling effort as senior pacers Josh Hazlewood and Dwayne Bravo picked up 5 wickets between them to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 134 for 7 in 20 overs.Hazlewood, who is looking to hit peak form in the shortest format of the game before the T20 World Cup, got the big wicket of Jason Roy for 2 as early as the 4th over. It was a disappointing end for the England opener who had provided the much-needed impetus to SRH after replacing David Warner in their previous match — a win over Rajasthan Royals.Wriddhiman Saha took on the aggressor’s role in the powerplay and he did well to take Sunrisers to 41 for 1 at the end of the powerplay. However, Dwayne Bravo provided the big breakthrough, getting Kane Williamson out LBW with a superb outswinger. Things went downhill from thereon for Sunrisers as young Priyam Garg fell early.Just when Saha was looking to get to a fifty and keep the scoreboard moving, he played across the line to Ravindra Jadeja and gave MS Dhoni his 100th catch for CSK.Youngsters Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad added the much-needed impetus to SRH’s innings with a handy 25-run stand but Hazlewood snapped the partnership and handed a double blow to Sunrisers removing both the youngsters in the same over.Rashid Khan did his best with the bat, hitting a 13-ball 17 after Jason Holder’s early exit but SRH fell at least 15-20 run short of a competitive total.
